• Triangle Luminaria is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to the collaboration and teamwork necessary to plan and execute effective Luminaria-based fundraisers and service projects for youth development organizations in southwest Wake County including the communities of Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, and Fuquay-Varina.

Currently Girl Scout, Boy Scout and American Heritage Girls troops participate in the program. They distribute luminaria as a service project which also serves as a fund raiser. These distributions are individual troop projects which are supported by Triangle Luminaria. Triangle Luminaria consists of a volunteer Committee with past experience. Since the project was started in 1973 by BSA Troop 208, its success has depended on the voluntary cooperation of the troops with regard to the routes served and the general guidelines recommended by the Committee. Each troop submits the appropriate fund raising request forms to the proper Boy Scout and Girl Scout officials. This gives the troops approval to perform this project from their respective governing organizations. This is not a council or national project. It is a coordinated community effort consisting of individual troop projects.

The success of this program for the residents of the area is spread across many hands but we wanted to recognize a few specific folks who are at this point “retired”. Maria Sears, Leah Burton, and Berry Credle are all leadership alumni for Triangle Luminaria and made great contributions to get us where we are today. Above all, we want to recognize Don Fick. For years, Don was the de-facto leader, trainer, and champion for the program and made great strides to the benefit of the group as the supplies negotiator and streets database administrator. Later, he formed the Triangle Luminaria 501(c)3 to formalize these processes and pulled in several reps from participating troops to help support the program. Don went into well deserved retirement as the Chairman after the 2021 season.
